Piaggio Fast Forward

Session Title: From motorcycles to robots: enabling humans to do more
Join us for lunch, an office tour and an interactive experience with our autonomous robots! Piaggio Fast Forward is a new company of the Piaggio Group (Owners of Vespa, Moto Guzzi, Aprilia, Gilera and Derbi) that was started in 2015 to re-think how to better move people and goods in urban settings. We just launched our first product, Gita, a cargo carrying robot that can follow a human operator (like a personal pack mule) carrying up to 40 pounds or move autonomously by itself in a mapped environment. We've been featured in the WSJ, Time Magazine, The Economist, CNN, Techcrunch and more and Forrester research said we are "going to change the way people work."

During our session, we'll give you a quick background of how we came to be, talk about what we think is happening in the world of personal mobility and transportation, show you around our office (which includes a prototyping shop with a Kuka robot, multiple 3D printers and other machines) and give you a chance to interact 1-on-1 with Gita. Our company is all about enabling humans to move faster, more efficiently and more enjoyably. Join us for an afternoon to learn about why we think this sector is so interesting and what our bet of the future of transportation will look like.
Suggested audience: We are hiring mechanical, electrical, and software engineers, marketers, business development managers and more and encourage people looking for full time or internship opportunities to join us.

PFF is located at 56 Roland Street, Suite 104, Boston, MA 02129. We're a 3 minute walk from the Sullivan Square T stop on the orange line. We offer free visitor parking outside our office. Our actual entrance door is located at the corner of Roland and Crescent streets. Walk up the ramp on the side of the loading dock

Session Title: Voice powered: how voice interfaces are shaping the homes, cars, and cities of the future

From Amazon Echo and Google Home to voice assistants like Siri, it's starting to feel like voice controls are everywhere. But it's only the beginning of a major shift in interaction. At Vesper, we're at the heart of the voice interaction future: our microphones are extremely low-power and enable connected devices to wake up when they hear sound. We'll give you an overview of the voice-controlled landscape and show you our high-tech microphone lab, plus demos you need to see (and hear) to believe.

Session Title: Early-Stage Growth Strategies: What you may not be thinking about, but probably should.

Lunch will be provided at this session.

Last year, CloudHealth Technologies CTO and Founder Joe Kinsella spoke about how to convert an initial concept into a viable technology, and the process of ideating along the way. This year, you’ll get the CEO take on how a business leader lays the groundwork for successful growth.
In this session, CloudHealth Technologies CEO and Co-founder Dan Phillips will unpack the misleadingly simple concept of “growth,” drawing upon learnings gleaned from decades of entrepreneurship and real-world business experience. Attendees will learn what works, what doesn’t, and what you may not be thinking about in the early stages…but probably should be. Dan will dig into the thought process underlying a multitude of critical decisions, including the following:
●      How do you attract top talent and build out a team early on? What selection method goes into making these crucial early hires?
●      How do you encourage the iterative, creative process while still imposing an established framework for building product, marketing to customers, and closing a sale?
●      What technology, processes and systems must be put in place to maintain efficiency and productivity?
●      How do you effectively scale during periods of hyper growth?
●      Where do intangibles -- like culture -- fall with respect to measurable results, such as sales numbers?
●      What unforeseen challenges arise during periods of peak transformation?
CloudHealth Technologies is a workplace that emphasizes creativity and innovation. We aren’t looking to improve a market…we want to fundamentally disrupt it. In working to eliminate the complexity of cloud management for the world’s largest cloud customers, we’ve become one of the fastest growing tech companies in Boston and have begun expansion on a global level.
Join this session if you want to receive candid advice from a serial entrepreneur, learn what it takes to set the stage for future success early on, and hear strategies for undergoing rapid growth (and transformation).

Lunch will be provided!
Suggested Audience: Startup founders, product managers, tech-focused entrepreneurs and college graduates who are interested in learning what it is like to build a business from the ground up

Philips Lighting Research North America
Limited Capacity full

Participants will get the chance to experience ongoing innovation at our North America Labs, especially on topics related to smart cities and to the role of light in productivity and workplace wellbeing. First, the Atlas of Lighting, a joint collaboration with Massachusetts Institute of Technology, provides a data-based scientific view of social and economic dynamics of metropolitan areas around the world.

Second, there will be a lighting simulation based on the MIT CityScope project, which is an interactive decision support system for urban development. Third, we will demo a Department of Energy that contributes to personal and organizational goals for workplace wellbeing. It is based on an aggressive energy saving, capable of variable modulation of intensity, distribution, and spectrum of lighting in order to support diverse visual and non-visual needs.
Our focus on cities stems from the global trend for urbanization, the ubiquitous presence of lighting – with approximately 500 million street lights installed in public spaces globally, and the massive opportunity that connected lighting can bring to our cities. Currently less than 1% of all our global street lights are connected or intelligent. With the emergence of big data, the Internet of Things and connected, digital lighting, we’re bringing much more intelligent functionality into our lighting systems – lighting will go beyond illumination.

Session Title: The Sonus Transition and How It’s Benefiting Your Company’s Security Strategy
Evolve, enhance, repeat or become obsolete. That’s the way technology advances in the ever-changing world we live in. Today’s companies need to provide constant innovation to ensure they stay top of mind with customers. For Sonus, a company celebrating its twentieth birthday this year, its answer came in the form of securing Unified Communications (UC).
Unified Communications (UC), often the forgotten application among CISOs, are more vulnerable and open to attacks than most organizations realize. UC isn’t just the voice call anymore. It’s video, file sharing, messaging and more. And now that it has moved over the Internet, it provides a much richer set of capabilities and is inherently more vulnerable to being exploited. But UC isn’t the only application your business should focus on. With Denial of Service and Cloud platform API-based attacks flooding the news cycle, companies must have a comprehensive security strategy that spans all applications and elements of their networks.
During this engaging session, Sonus’ Mykola Konrad will explain how Sonus has shifted from a “has been” telco to a “NewCo” security-focused company. Mykola will also discuss the culture shift Sonus needed to make that transition and how the company’s new focus will help organizations secure their networks better than ever before.
